Flysheet and its Fabric

Khyam tent flysheets are manufactured from PU coated synthetic fabric. All synthetic fabrics suffer a degree of condensation dependent upon conditions and to help reduce this, Khyam Flexi-dome range tents have ventilation in both the inner tents and flysheets. Central mesh ventilation panels, where applicable, are protected by a separate external top cap clipping directly onto the pole system.

Ventilation in the Ridgi ranges is facilitated by vent ports in each bedroom section along with mesh front door screens and side mesh screens where appropriate. All synthetic fabrics are subject to some UV degradation in daylight, this is a natural characteristic of the fabric. If severe damage occurs after prolonged exposure, flysheets can easily be replaced – please contact your stockist.

All Khyam models have a flame retardant treatment on all outer-tent fabrics.

Inner Fabric

Inner tents from the Flexi-dome range are manufactured from breathable synthetic fabric. If condensation forms on the inside of the flysheet, the light shower coating we have added to the inner fabric will normally prevent water penetration. The Ridgi ranges inners are manufactured from poly cotton which is also semi-proofed.

Groundsheet Fabric

All inner tent groundsheets for the Flexi-dome range are constructed from PU coated synthetic fabric and the seams are tape sealed. Under certain conditions, condensation can occur on the groundsheet particularly beneath beds and sleep mats. To protect and prolong the life of the inner groundsheet, we recommend the use of Khyam Original Stone Protection Sheets. The construction of groundsheets in the Ridgi ranges utilises woven polyethylene with welded seams making taping unnecessary. However, use of a supplementary groundsheet will help keep the inner tent groundsheet clean for easier packing.

Inner Tents

All Khyam inner tents are equipped with secondary mosquito net doors and double zip sliders to promote ventilation. The inner doors can be rolled up and tied back for clear access and all inner tents can be easily detached from the flysheet and folded back or removed. Never cook in your tent. Synthetic fabrics will melt and may catch fire if they come into contact with a flame or very hot object. Always take extreme care when cooking near your tent and be alert to sparks from barbecues and camp fires.

Pole System

The Khyam Flexi-dome range main pole structure is a combination of robust solid glass fibre poles bonded onto reinforced moulded nylon joints. Poles in the Ridgi ranges are constructed from aluminium and steel giving rigidity with flexibility unique to Khyam. It is rare for poles or joints to break, they are extremely durable and have been tested to exacting standards. For peace of mind, however, we suggest carrying spare poles on long or faraway trips. A complete range of replacementp oles are available through all stockists.

Guying Points

Guying points are sewn onto the flysheet of all Khyam tents to maintain stability in windy conditions. To reduce the risk of damage in severe weather, we strongly recommend that where applicable, each main pole is guyed directly using our Storm Pack accessory kit (available from your stockist). In Ridgi range tents the ‘Tri-guy System’ provided should be used at all times.

Both the Storm Guy pack and the Tri-guy System have been specifically designed to spread tension evenly around the pole system. As dome tents are flexible structures, guys and storm guys should never be over-tensioned as this will distort the framework and the fabric will become loose. Heavy duty pegs on Family models are provided to maximise performance in severe weather conditions and guys and storm guys should be pegged as far from the tent as possible.

Seams

On all models, the flysheet seams have been tape sealed during manufacture and sealant only needs to be applied if necessary where an inner tent suspension loop has been stitched onto the seam. Any untaped seams may require treatment with seam sealant which is provided. Unlike natural fabrics, synthetics do not recover after sewing and it is sometimes necessary to apply sealant. Using the applicator, apply the sealant carefully along the inside of the flysheet seams, and around the hanging points from which the inner tent is suspended, ensuring that they are totally sealed to prevent any wicking.

On no account should the teeth or working parts of any zips on the flysheet or inner tent be sealed. Allow at least 48 hours for the sealant to cure. The tent must never be packed away until the sealant is completely dry.

Use sealant wherever small drips may occur making sure firstly that the flysheet is fully dry prior to application.
