FESTIVAL CAMPING TIPS

The sun is finally out and Summer is nearly here; and you know what that means, festival season is here! Believe it or not, when it comes to festival camping there’s a lot more that should be considered than you might think. Your camping experience can make or break your weekend of fun, so take a read at our top 5 tips below before you leave the house to make sure you’re prepped and ready to go!

1. Get the basics right!

Investing in the right tent can make all the difference when it comes to festival camping. When it comes to picking your tent there are a few factors to consider, these include size, camping conditions and portability. Chances are you’ll always need a bigger tent than you think as you’ll need to consider the amount of other festival essentials you’ll be bringing with you. For example, if you want to stay on an air bed, that will take more room and you’ll need space for your backpack which may be very large. Also, you’ll want a spot to leave wellies etc if it’s raining outside! Nobody enjoys being in a cramped space, we promise you’ll get a much better nights sleep in a bigger tent! The types of conditions your tent can sustain are exceptionally important. If you’re camping in the UK there’s a high chance it will rain, and there is nothing worse than coming back to a damp, leaking tent after a long day! Basic items you’re going to need include:

  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag
  • Roll mat
  • Tent pegs
  • Camping stove
  • Basic repair kit

2. Be prepared!

Don’t make the rookie mistake of packing the day before you leave. By taking time to pack in advance you’ll make sure you have everything you need and will be far more organised. Take time to make a checklist of the things you need to take with you and have a look at some handy space saving packing tips such as rolling your clothes rather than folding them. It’s also worthwhile thinking about how you’re going to transport your things; your campsite can often be very far from where you get dropped off so often it’s good to take a case with wheels, but be warned - it may be muddy! By being prepared you can also make sure you have the right clothing, fashion is one thing but it’s important you prepare for every kind of weather! Make sure you pack for when it’s rainy - a poncho may be your new best friend! You’ll also want to make sure you take along plenty of snacks, most festivals offer food on site but you’ll want something easy at your campsite.

3. Make your tent memorable!

You’re going to be camping with thousands of other people, all with similar tents so it’s important that you make your tent stand out from the crowd. This can be done in a number of ways, including with a flag or by attaching anything to the tent itself. It’s important that when you come back after a long day you can easily spot your tent, even in the dark and when surrounded by others! We promise you’ll thank us for this later!

4. Pick the perfect pitch!

When you finally arrive at the festival it can be tempting to throw your belongings down and pitch your tent in the first available space. However, we would recommend taking some time to choose your spot carefully! You’re going to want somewhere that’s close to the festival arena so that it doesn’t take you too long to walk to and from the music. You’ll also want to be slightly off the main paths as these are constantly busy with festival goers, which means it’s unlikely you’ll get the perfect nights sleep! Finally, we would also suggest staying away from the toilets for obvious reasons…

5. Have fun!

Having fun is the most important part and the main reason you’re going. Use these tips and you’ll have a weekend of fun!
