Feeling a little under the weather? We prescribe getting yourself into the great outdoors and a weekend of camping! We know that camping can be fantastic fun for you and the family, but did you know that it can also be amazing for your health!? Here are five reasons camping is beneficial for your health.
1. Fresh air
Aaah, take a moment and breathe in that fresh air! Enjoy taking in that all important oxygen and enjoy your surroundings. There’s nothing better than taking in some fresh countryside air during a weekend camping. Did you know that your brain functions better with the increased level of oxygen and releases serotonin, which makes you feel happy and lowers your stress level? Fresh air also has other health benefits, such as improving your blood pressure, aiding digestion, and boosting the immune system. Providing your body with these higher levels of oxygen over a series of days increases the effect of these health benefits!
While out camping you’ll get the opportunity to do plenty of exercise. For example, walking, swimming, cycling, hiking, fishing or playing some fun sports with the family. These different exercises burn off a larger number of calories than spending the day in the office would. Exercise activates your cardiovascular system and is beneficial to the health of your heart and lungs. Make it fun and organise some games like rounders with the family!
3. Sunshine - hopefully!
This one is weather dependent unfortunately! We know that camping in the UK doesn’t always guarantee sunshine, however, when you do get lucky it’s fantastic for your health! Whether you’re out a walk or simply just spending time outside cooking sunshine has a huge impact on your health. The sun provides our bodies with Vitamin D. This is essential to our well-being because Vitamin D allows our body to absorb calcium and phosphorous which strengthens our bones and teeth!
Nothing beats sleeping in as long as you like, the quiet of nature, sleeping under the stars, or a in warm and comfy Khyam! After a long day filled with adventures and fresh air, it is no wonder that falling asleep is easy - no need for counting sheep! A good night's sleep is needed to keep your body functioning correctly and can improve sleep cycles long after your trip is over. After a good nights kip you’ll leave your trip feeling relaxed and refreshed!
5. Stress-free zen
Enjoy being able to take your mind out of the office and into the outdoors. Take some time for yourself and enjoy switching off your brain for a couple of days. Although many campsites offer Wi-Fi, it is important to allow yourself time away from technology! The decrease in the constant stimulation of technology will encourage a greater psychological and emotional health.
